Baseball players are hot. Even the dorky ones can be handsome, with their sunburnt, squinty eyes and cocky smiles. Why shouldn’t they be happy? Their paid to run around outside in tight pants and play a kids’ game. Their job is to hit a ball—not each other—with a big stick, and they get winters off. These guys are hot (at least to me) because of the mix of confidence and happiness. All that sliding, butt slapping, and cheering for each other is further evidence.

The ball players here almost made themselves. I was commissioned to make a series of collages about baseball. After a couple days cutting through dozens of books, faces started to line up on my desk and studio floor. I quickly scooped them up and started making more. There is probably something about the ratio of face to book-page that helped them all line up so imperfectly. But let’s not get carried away.

I knew the collection would become a zine as soon as the first few were made. But what about the originals? They should live out in the world, too, I decided. Each zine includes one original collage. I’d be remiss if I didn’t sneak in a plug for my favorite team. #LFGM
